Learn

All new undergraduate students entering the California State University system are required to take placement tests that measure their skill level in both English and Math. The results of these placement tests determine the appropriate English and Math courses. Courses range from preparatory coursework to General Education level coursework.

The placement tests are a condition of enrollment at California State University, Sacramento.

Two placement tests are given to all non-exempt incoming students: English Placement Test (EPT) and the Entry Level Math (ELM) Exam.

    ELM (Entry Level Math) Exam

The ELM examination is designed to measure the skill levels of entering CSU students in the areas of mathematics typically covered in three years of rigorous college preparatory mathematics courses in high school.
    EPT (English Placement Test)

The EPT is designed to measure the level of reading and writing skills of entering undergraduate students so that they can be placed in appropriate courses.

Practice

It is highly recommended that incoming students both learn about and practice for the exam.

    ELM

To learn more about and take practice exams for the ELM please visit the CSU Math Success website.
    EPT

To learn more about and take practice exams for the EPT please visit the CSU English Success website.

Register
Students can register for the EPT/ELM online at http://www.ets.org/csu
For EOP priority admittance, take the tests by March (or as early as December).

It is highly recommended that students register for the placement exams as soon as possible to be admitted to the Summer Bridge Academy. Those students who have completed the exams will be given priority.

Remember that the test fee is small compared to the fees, books, and parking------and a big head start on college classes!

Students who participate in Summer Bridge do better in their first year of college than other students. We have limited space; therefore students should apply to EOP as early as possible (October 1 – November 30).

It is highly recommended that students register for the placement exams as soon as possible to be admitted to the Summer Bridge Academy. Those students who have completed the exams will be given priority.
