Sacramento State hosted a two-day American
Indian History Symposium with the theme,
“Guardians of Knowledge - Guardians of the
Past.” Frank LaPena, emeritus Professor of
Art, Ethnic Studies and former director of
Native American Studies at Sacramento State,
gave permission to use one of his paintings
titled "The Guardians" for the symposium’s
