Food and Nutrition/Dietetics Club (FAN/DIET Club)
The Food and Nutrition/Dietetics Club promotes career development and nutrition and food education through participation in CSUS Health Fairs and other consumer education events throughout the year. They also sponsor fund raising activities to send members to professional conferences and activities.
Sacramento State's fifth annual FOOD DAY is only 1 day away. On Tuesday, October 20th we will be celebrating real food with the events listed below.
7 PM: Keynote Speaker - Writer, photographer, filmmaker, and multimedia artist Douglas Gayeton will present on "How We Can Help Fix Our Food System". Gayeton, who lives on a goat farm near Petaluma, is the author of Local: The New Face of Food & Farming in America (2014, Harper Design) and the previously published Slow: Life in a Tuscan Town. He also is the director of the short-film series Know Your Food on PBS and founder of the crowd-sourced project Lexicon of Sustainability, which strives to improve the American food system. in the University Union, Redwood Room.
4:30 PM: “Food Chains: The Revolution in America’s Fields.” A film screening of the 2014 documentary about Florida farmworkers’ Fair Food program, which unites growers and retailers to improve working conditions for farm laborers. Panel discussion immediately following the film moderated by Lesley McClurg, Capital Public Radio's Food and Sustainability Reporter. in the University Union, Redwood Room.
12:00 PM, 12:45 PM, and 1:30 PM (30-minutes each) – Natural Foods Co-op Cooking Demonstrations. in The COVE (first floor of The WELL)
11:00 AM to 3 PM: Sacramento State’s Food and Nutrition (FAN) Club Jamboree. in the Library Quad
10:00 AM to 2 PM: Aquaponics Open House at the STORC (Sustainable Technology Outdoor Research Center) facility. Along the American River levee across from Parking Lot 4.
FOOD DAY is free and open to the public.
