MISSION STATEMENT

The Dietetic Internship program provides quality academic and professional experiences for Interns to become competent Registered Dietitians in entry-level dietetics careers. The program encourages lifelong learning by providing opportunities for professional growth and involvement in the profession. Graduates will have the resources, knowledge, critical thinking, cultural sensitivity, and effective communication skills to promote client well-being and the profession of dietetics.

 

PROGRAM GOALS AND MEASURABLE OUTCOMES

Goal 1: The Dietetic Internship will graduate Interns who are committed and competent entry level
dietetic practitioners.

Outcome measures:

1.1 To demonstrate program completion rates, >90% of appointed students will successfully complete the Dietetic Internship.

1.2 To ensure competent entry level practitioners graduate from the program, >90% of graduates will successfully pass the Registration Exam for Dietitians on the first attempt.

1.3 To ensure competent entry level practitioners graduate from the program, >80% of graduating Interns will be adequately prepared for entry- level positions in the field of dietetics.

1.4 To ensure competent entry level practitioners graduate from the program, >80% of employers will indicate that graduates are performing satisfactorily as entry-level dietitians.

Goal 2: The Dietetic Internship will foster cultural awareness and sensitivity for Interns and graduates.

Outcome measures:

2.1 To demonstrate cultural awareness, a minimum of 20% of graduates will be culturally/ ethnically diverse, have been trained in a second language, and indicate cultural understanding and sensitivity.

2.2 To demonstrate cultural awareness, >80% of employers will indicate that graduates are culturally sensitive.

Goal 3: The Dietetic Internship will promote lifelong learning and professional growth for Interns, graduates, and Preceptors.

Outcome measures:

3.1 To demonstrate that the program encourages professionalism, >80% of alumni will indicate that the program satisfactorily encouraged professionalism.

3.2 To demonstrate professionalism, >80% of employers will indicate that graduates exhibit professionalism in their position.

3.3 To demonstrate lifelong learning for graduates, > 60% alumni will document participation in > 1 educational opportunity within the first year of graduation.

3.4 To demonstrate promotion of lifelong learning for Preceptors and dietetic professionals, the DI program will host at least one continuing education activity per academic year.

Goal 4: The Dietetic Internship will increase the number of Registered Dietitians for employment in clinical, community, and foodservice positions in the greater Sacramento area.

Outcome measures:

4.1 To demonstrate that the Dietetic Internship increased the number of Registered Dietitians for employment in the greater Sacramento Area, a minimum of 50% alumni will pursue careers in dietetics locally within 12 months of completing the Dietetic Internship.

4.2 To demonstrate that the Dietetic Internship increased the number of Registered Dietitians for employment in a variety of settings, a minimum of 50% of alumni and employers will document employment in a variety of dietetics careers including clinical, community, and foodservice.
