Welcome to the Dietetic Internship website at CSU Sacramento. We appreciate your interest in one of the leading dietetic internship programs in the country. The internship is housed in CSU Sacramento’s Family and Consumers Sciences Department and has rotation sites throughout the Greater Sacramento area.
The internship program, which has an emphasis in disease prevention and health promotion or advocacy and public policy, provides dietetic interns with over 1300 hours of supervised practice experience in clinical, foodservice management, and community nutrition, as well as over 110 hours of didactic training in a variety of advanced topics including medical nutrition therapy, public health nutrition, and disease pathophysiology and nutrition management.
We are proud to have a 98% first time pass rate on the Registration Examination for Dietitian Nutritionists.
The CSU Sacramento Dietetic Internship Program accepts 8 students per year beginning in late August and runs until mid-June. Candidates for this program must be self-directed, proactive, attentive, motivated, flexible, and responsible. Each CSUS dietetic intern is required to attend the CSUS 5-day orientation in late August. Interns work 32-40 hours/week and complete the program in 42 weeks with two weeks for winter vacation.
This program meets the "ACEND-Accredited Dietetic Internship" requirement set forth by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and its credentialing body, the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Individuals interested in becoming a Registered Dietitian can visit the Academy's website (https://www.eatright.org) for more information on the required steps. Graduates from the CSU Sacramento Dietetic Internship obtain a "Verification Statement," which enables them to sit for the Registration Examination for Dietitians, which is administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
