Selection Criteria
Eligibility Criteria
The following criteria must be met in order to apply for the CSU Sacramento Dietetic Internship:
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution
- A cumulative AND DPD* grade point average of at least 3.00
- Verification of completion* of an ADA-approved Didactic Program in Dietetics
- Reliable transportation with appropriate automobile insurance
*Completion of the ADA-approved Didactic Program in Dietetics must be within five years of the program start date.
Desired Criteria (these are given selection priority but are not required):
- Significant volunteer or work experience in the field of nutrition/dietetics
- Demonstration of the desire to stay and work in Sacramento, San Joaquin, and / or Placer County
“What makes a strong applicant?”
A common question of applicants is what makes a strong applicant. Although the answer is variable as each intern is unique in their experience and knowledge base, there are a few traits that we have recognized as strong candidates. Do not be discouraged if you do not meet all of these traits…you may have unidentified strong traits.
- GPA of > 3.5 Nutrition coursework
- GPA of > 3.0 Science coursework
- > B grade in each:
- Medical Nutrition Therapy
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Biochemistry
- > 200 hours of each:
- Community nutrition
- Foodservice settings
- Clinical experience
- > 6 months experience as a diet technician or nutrition assistant in a hospital clinical / foodservice setting
- Someone who is self-motivated, organized, dependable, outgoing, perception of lifelong learning, and enthusiastic about the field of dietetics and nutrition
