Selection Criteria

Eligibility Criteria

The following criteria must be met in order to apply for the CSU Sacramento Dietetic Internship:

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution
  • A cumulative DPD* grade point average of at least 3.00 or a Master's Degree
  • Medical Nutrition Therapy grade(s) of B or higher.  
  • Verification of completion* of an ACEND-accredited DPD Program in Dietetics
  • Reliable transportation with appropriate automobile insurance

*Completion of the ACEND-accredited DPD Program in Dietetics must be within five years of the program start date.

Desired Criteria (these are given selection priority but are not required):

A common question of applicants is what makes a strong applicant. Although the answer is variable as each intern is unique in their experience and knowledge base, there are a few traits that we have recognized as strong candidates.

  • > 400 hours of experience in one or more of each:
    • Community nutrition
    • Foodservice settings (hospitals, schools, and/or prisons)
    • Clinical experience
  • Overall DPD GPA of > 3.5 
  • Strong personal statement 
  • Strong letters of recommendation 
  • Involvement in sports/extracurricular activities 
  • Leadership experience
  • Desire to work in the field of Disease Prevention & Health Promotion or Advocacy & Public Policy
  • Someone who is self-motivated, professional, has strong communication skills, dependable, independent but works well in groups, and enthusiastic about the field of dietetics and nutrition.
