Sac State Study Abroad Program
Students should file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov as soon as possible. The priority filing date for the FAFSA is always March 2. Make sure that you also complete your financial aid file as early as possible. The priority document deadline is June 1. It takes approximately 6 to 8 weeks for our office to process your application and determine your eligibility.

Aid Eligibility and Scholarships
Financial aid for the Sac State Programs (Exchange) is processed in the same manner as aid for students who are attending the home campus. Financial aid eligibility includes, the Federal Pell Grant, Cal Grant, State University Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, Direct Loan, Federal Perkins Loan, and scholarships. Students cannot participate in the Federal Work Study program while participating in a study abroad program.
Students participating in this program, are encouraged to investigate and apply for scholarships. A listing of scholarships are available from the International Programs and Global Engagement (IPGE). For individual advising and application information on scholarships/grants for study abroad, you should contact Janis Silvers, at (916) 278-6686.
There are currently 18 Sac State Programs (Exchange) to chose from. You can download and review the financial responsibilities associated for your country of choice and determine how much in funds you will need for the duration of your stay abroad. If you require additional assistance with costs, it is recommended that you speak with IPGE, first before you speak with a Financial Aid Counselor.
Financial aid is disbursed according to the start of the term at Sacramento State and not the start date of your study abroad program. Any unpaid balance will automatically be deducted from your aid. Financial aid checks cannot be mailed out of the country, so we recommend that you sign up for eRefund to have your financial aid deposited directly into your bank account. Sign up online by clicking on Account Inquiry in your My Sac State Student Center. If you do not sign up for eRefund, your check will be mailed to the current address listed in your My Sac State, which must be an address in the United States. If you leave the country before your first disbursement of aid, you should be prepared to cover your expenses while a refund is made available.
Please check your My Sac State Student Center at least four weeks before your departure to verify that your file is complete and that you have cleared any disbursement holds.
