Federal Pell Grant
The Pell Grant Program is a federally-sponsored grant program. Pell Grants are awarded to students based on financial need and limited to students seeking their first bachelor’s degree and students seeking their first teaching credential.
Eligibility depends on:
- Expected Family Contribution (EFC)
- Enrollment status
Effective 2012-2013, eligible students can receive Pell up to 12 full-time semesters or the equivalent. This federal mandate is retroactive. It includes Pell Grant received at all institutions attended. You cannot appeal this federal law or request an extension.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
FSEOG is a federally-funded program for undergraduate students with exceptional need. Students who have filed by the March 2 priority filing date will be given priority for this award.
Eligibility depends on:
- Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $0;
- Enrolled in minimum of 6 units;
- Not receive the EOP Grant

Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant
The U.S. Department of Education's Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant (TEACH) Program provides funds to students who are completing or who plan to complete coursework that is required to begin a career in teaching.
Applicants agree to meet the following conditions:
- Teach full-time for at least four years in an eligible school within an eight year period
- Serve as a highly qualified teacher
- Teach at a school servicing low-income students
- Serve in a high-need field

Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant
A student whose parent or guardian died as a result of military service in Iraq or Afghanistan after the events of 9/11 (September 11, 2001) may receive an Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant if:
- The student is not eligible for a Pell Grant based on his or her Expected Family Contribution, and
- At the time of the parent's or guardian's death, the student was less than 24 years old, and/or
- Was enrolled at least part-time at an institution of higher education.
The maximum amount of the Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant is the same as the maximum Pell Grant award and will be adjusted accordingly based on enrolled units. The Department of Defense (DOD) will identify eligible individuals.
State Programs
Cal Grant A and B
Cal Grants are administered by the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) to students who are California residents.
To be considered for a Cal Grant, students must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and a GPA Verification must be submitted to the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) by March 2. Cal Grants are generally renewable aid. Continuing students should file by February 22 if they have not been previously awarded a Cal Grant; Sacramento State will automatically send your Cal Grant GPA to the California Student Aid Commission by March 2 for all students who have completed 24 or more units at Sacramento State.
Cal Grant A
Cal Grant A eligibility is based on academic achievement and financial need, and is to be used for State University Fees, but it may not cover full fees. Students must be enrolled at least half-time to receive this grant.
Cal Grant B
Cal Grant B eligibility is based on demonstration of substantial financial need. This grant consists of a subsistence allowance and, for renewal recipients, an award for State University Fees. Students must be enrolled at least half-time to receive this grant.

Educational Opportunity Program - EOP Grant
The Educational Opportunity Program Grant is funded by the State of California to assist undergraduate students with financial need who have been admitted to Sacramento State through the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP).
Eligibility depends on:
- Full-time enrollment;
- Funding availability;
- Expected Family Contribution (EFC);
- Award amounts vary based on the student's year in school

State University Grant Program
State University Grant (SUG) is funded by the State of California to assist students whose ability to attend post- secondary institutions is jeopardized by increases in student charges. This award only covers the cost of tuition fees.
Eligibility depends on:
- Must be a California resident;
- Expected Family Contribution (EFC);
- At least half-time enrollment;
- May not receive funds from another aid program designed to cover tuition fees
- NEW: Unit cap based on the number of units required to graduate;
- NEW: Pursuit of first degree objective
