Federal Work Study

Federal Work-Study (FWS) helps eligible students earn funds for their educational expenses and provides worthwhile job opportunities. Receiving a FWS offer does not guarantee you a job. Job placement depends on a number of factors including your skills and abilities and your availability to work certain hours.

You are required to report to work on time and to perform your work duties as instructed by your supervisor. If a revision to your original FWS award occurs, you must adjust your work schedule to accommodate the change. You are responsible for keeping track of your earnings. You must not exceed your FWS Award amount if you want to cancel your unearned FWS Award or change jobs. If you decide to quit or leave your FWS job prior to earning your entire award, you must submit the Federal Work-Study Adjustment Request Form to the Financial Aid Office indicating your student ID number, your last day on the job, and the total FWS earnings you earned while employed with that employer.

FWS earnings are taxable income subject to state and federal taxes. However, FWS earnings are considered Title IV income, and not counted when you apply for financial aid for the next academic year. When completing your FAFSA carefully read the section pertaining to earned income and enter FWS earnings where indicated.
