Lesson 7 家族(かぞく)の写真(しゃしん) Family Picture

Objectives:

Homework consists of the followings:

  • Workbook: Check the due date on the Schedule!
  • Reading "Grammar" section and doing "practice" in the textbook
  • Studying vocabulary, kanji, and grammar for quizzes
  • Memorizing "Model Conversation"
  • Listening to the CDs
  • Previewing and Reviewing the material on SacCT.

In each lesson, there will be 2 Vocabulary Quizzes, a Kanji Quiz, & a Review Quiz. In addition, a lot of online exercises are posted on WebCT. There will be three major tests: Test 1 (L7-8), Test 2 (L9-10), and Test 3/Final (L11-12). Do a little homework EVERY day. SUBMIT HOMEWORK AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CLASS. DO NOT WORK ON THE ASSIGNMENT DURING CLASS TIME. This Homework List is subject to change .

  • Practice L7 Vocabulary using CD that comes with your textbook.

Online Materials and Online Review Exercises

  • SacCT tour: Log into SacCT (http://www.csus.edu/sacct/) with your Saclink account & password. All lesson information is in "Learning Module."

  • Click ASSESSMENT on the homepage (left menu bar) or L7 folder. There is a list of online review exercise (L1-6) and L7 exercises that you have to complete - You can take as many times as you would like. The highest score will be recorded. Complete them by the due dates (after the due dates, these quizzes will disappear).

  • BLOG: Post your introduction in Japanese. Go to SacCT, and click Blogs (3 essays) on the left bar. You will see TEST 1 Blogs for each section. Click your section, and you will build your blog. There are three topics (1), (2), and (3). Make sure that you will post your message on (1) Introduction yourself.

    • Click "Create Blog Entry."
    • You will type "Your name in Katakana (e.g., メアリー・ハート (first name • last name)" in the Title box.
    • Type the content. You will write a hobby of yours AND reason(s) why you are taking Japanese in Japanese.
    • Example: 私は(your name in Katakana)です。せんこうは (your major in Japanese) です。今、サクラメントしゅりつ大学の 〜年(ねん)生です。しゅみは Noun です or しゅみは Verb (Plain form) ことです (e.g., テニスをすることです)。にほんごはたのしいから、べんきょうしています (REASON+から、statement)。どうぞよろしく。
    • Complete by Monday, Feb 11 @11:59pm.

  • In SacCT, send a message regarding online quizzes to the instructor (Kazue Masuyama) by using both Email and Message function. The subject is Online exercise, and the message from you to the instructor will tell the instructor whether these online quizzes are useful to you or not. This can be in English. Email & Message me after having taken a couple of online exercises. I would like to have your objective comments and suggestions to make these exercises better. Complete by Monday, Feb 11 @11:59pm.

  • Read L7 ぶんぽう1: 〜て form + います/いる
    (pp. 170-172)

    kanji furigana

    * 〜てform +いる means either of the following:
    (a) an action in progress (べんきょうしています I am studying, 食べています I am eating, etc.)
    (b) a past event that is connected with the present (バスにのっています I got on a bus and am in the bus/am riding on a bus)

    * We can categorize the learned verbs into the following 3 categories
    (1) Verbs that describe continuous states: ある いる
    (2) Verbs that describe activities that last for some time: 食べる, 飲む, ねる, etc.
    (3) Verbs that describe changes that are more or less instantaneous
    : おきる, いく, かえる, etc. (See the list on p. 171)

  • Turn in Workbook p. 64, 65 & 66 at the beginning of the class time. Use the learned Kanji (with furigana - the reading of kanji in hiragana on the top of the used kanji).

  • Study L7 Target kanji (pp. 318): 京、子、小. Start working on L7 kanji (pp. 318-322) and workbook (pp. 137-138).
