Academic Session and Home Stay in Guatemala

Depending upon their needs and preparation, graduate participants may select from six to nine units of academic coursework from the following four areas: Spanish Peninsular Literature, Latin American Literature, Linguistics, and Hispanic Civilization and Culture. It is expected that participants will attend all classes daily and speak only Spanish throughout the entire program. Due to the intensive nature of the program, students are strongly advised to begin reading and preparing for all classes several months before the program begins.

Tentative Course Offerings

SPAN 199: Special Problems. (1-3 units)

SPAN 201A: General Spanish Linguistics. (3 units)

SPAN 220B: Spanish Literature in the Golden Age. (3 units)

SPAN224B: Spanish-American Literature, 1825-1880. (3 units)

SPAN 250C: Civilization and Culture of Hispanic America. (3 units)

SPAN 299: Special Problems. (1-3 units)

Units: Program fees include 0-6 units of academic credit transferable to most accredited universities. Students may enroll in an additional 3 units of course work at an additional cost of $450 per unit payable to Sacramento State. A maximum of nine units may be earned overall.

Housing and Meals: By prior arrangement, participants will be assigned to private homes upon arrival in Antigua. Host families normally have room for two (and on occasion three) participants. The price of homestay lodging includes three meals per day except Sundays and holidays, which are not included in Antigua. Meals that are not specified in the cost of the program during the cultural tour are to be paid for by the participant. Laundry is not included.
