Summer Field Camp
The 2016 Sacramento State Geology Field Camp will run from June 1st to July 10th. The first week of instruction takes place on the Sacramento State campus and provides an introduction to the areas we will be mapping. Students will create reconnaissance maps through the study of aerial imagery and become familiar with the rocks that we will map in the field through petrologic description of hand samples and thin sections. The remainder of the course will take place in eastern California where we map in geologically diverse areas. Mapping projects include: glacial deposits, deformed passive margin sediments, recent volcanic formations, neotectonic deformation of alluvial fan deposits, plutonic rocks and associated contact metamorphism.
