President's Message

Although Jody and I have only been part of the Sacramento community for a short while, we are truly impressed by how deeply so many care about the students here at Sac State. We thank you for your generosity and open hearts.

You are helping us to achieve our number one goal for our students: successful completion of a college degree.

In this issue of Torchlight, you will see examples of how support from alumni, friends, and donors provides pathways for our students on their way to completing their degrees. Programs like the Student Emergency Grant Fund, which helps students facing short-term financial crises that may impact their studies, and peer-group programs such as the College Assistance Migrant Program, the Full Circle Project, the Multicultural Center, and the Martin Luther King Center, are critical in ensuring that students receive the resources they need to persevere.

These programs, along with valuable scholarship support, enhance the quality learning experiences that come with a Sacramento State education. Private funding from donors like you continues to be crucial to the University’s ability to offer a level of excellence that augments our state funding.

It is my privilege, on behalf of the students, faculty, staff, and alumni of Sacramento State, to extend my gratitude for the dedication you exemplify. Please believe me: you have invested wisely.

Stingers up!

Sincerely,

Robert S. Nelsen
President
