Sacramento State’s signature black-tie fundraising event held March 24 raised more than $373,000 for student scholarships and programs, including a record $160,000 from an 11-minute paddle auction. The proceeds support student scholarships and programs, including the Green and Gold Scholarship and the Student Emergency Grant Fund.

“Sac State is all about the students,” President Robert S. Nelsen told attendees. “The scholarship funds we raise tonight will make a tremendous difference in their lives.”

Nearly 600 guests, including students representing more than 40 programs from across campus, enjoyed the event, co-hosted by masters of ceremony Good Day Sacramento’s Courtney Dempsey ’97 (Communication Studies) and 2016-17 Associated Students President Patrick Dorsey ’16 (Government).

“We’re here because it’s a wonderful way for my friends and I to dress up, and come raise money for the scholarships and the Student Emergency Fund,” said Margot Bach ’72 (Communication Studies), a member of The University Foundation at Sacramento State Board of Directors.

The evening’s theme, Reflections of Gratitude, was inspired by the artwork of alumnus and world-renowned artist Gregory Kondos ’51, MA ’57 (Art). Throughout the program, students shared with appreciation the stories of how the support of others has helped them through college. The culmination was Sacramento Black Art of Dance’s performance, marking its 25th year and a tribute to its recently retired founder and director, Linda Goodrich.

“Tonight is a night of celebration. We have the most wonderful students you’ll ever meet. Tonight we’ll raise money for scholarships for them. They’ll be able to go on and be proud Hornet alumni, and proud parts of the Hornet family just like you,” said President Nelsen.

With gratitude to this year’s Green & Gold Gala sponsors:
