What if my will is already done?

If you have already done your will or living trust, it’s easy to add what is called a codicil or amendment. Think of this as a “p.s.” The attorney who drafted your will or trust will usually perform these revisions for a nominal fee.

Other simple options

Don’t overlook these easy ways to include Sacramento State in your estate plans:

  • Designate the University Foundation at Sacramento State to receive your savings account or mutual fund after your death.
  • Name the University Foundation at Sacramento State as beneficiary of a life insurance policy you no longer need. Or, donate the policy and get a tax deduction.
  • Name the University Foundation as a beneficiary of an IRA or annuity. Assets may be distributed tax-free to a qualified charity but often generate large amounts of taxable income to your heirs.
  • Give a gift that pays you income for life, such as a charitable gift annuity ($20,000 minimum). You get a partial tax deduction and capital-gains advantages – and Sacramento State uses your gift after your lifetime
