Brief Biography:
A transplanted New Englander, I have been teaching at CSUS since 1970. My emphasis has been on teaching. I have taught a wide variety of courses including research methods (!), but over the years my emphasis has been on political theory especially the Greeks. For fifteen or so years I also taught half time in the Humanities Department, where my specialty was comparative religion. In addition, I have had administrative assignments. I was graduate coordinator from 1974-1998 and department chairman from 1998 to 2005. I FERPed in the fall of 2005 and now teach only fall semesters.
Areas of research and interests:
I am very interested in comparative religion, especially the Asian religions and monotheism. I have published several essays in this area in the now defunct but one time excellent CSUS journal Studia Mystica. I also have an abiding interest in the classical world broadly speaking—its political thought, its culture, its history, etc. I have a couple of unpublished manuscripts in this area.
Undergraduate courses:
Essentials of Government, Ancient Political Thought, Modern Political Thought, Current Political Thought, The Greeks, The Complete Works of Plato, Romanticism vs Mechanism, American Governments, Political Parties.
In Humanities:
