Brief Biography:
Professor Hertzoff specializes in the history of political theory. His dissertation was on Plato’s Cratylus. He also has interests in a variety of questions in democratic theory, international relations, American Constitutionalism, education, legal theory, and genocide. He has authored papers on Plato, Plutarch, Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, Tocqueville, Thoreau, W.E.B. Du Bois, Gadamer, Rorty, Strauss, and Weber. He was instrumental in the establishment of the new GE Honors Program at CSU—Sacramento. He is at work on a book about the rejection of Plato, Aristotle and teleology, and the influence of the Epicureans and the Sophists on the political thought of the Renaissance and Enlightenment, entitled Wisdom, Ignorance and Education.
