Mission & Vision

The ultimate intent of the Guardian Scholars Program at California State University, Sacramento is to address the plight of our nation’s foster youth, specifically youth who at eighteen years of age are “emancipated” and expected to forge successful paths toward academic, personal, and professional success.

CSUS realizes the insurmountable reality of this expectation especially when considering that of all the at-risk populations, foster youth face the most unimaginable obstacles.  Research shows that of those leaving foster care at eighteen, one-fifth end up in jail, half are jobless and a third become homeless.  CSUS is committed to ameliorating this troubling prognosis.
