Department Of Kinesiology And Health Science

Impaction and Applying to the Health Science Major

The Chancellor's Office of the California State University has granted the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science impaction status for its undergraduate Health Science (HLSC) program effective Fall 2012. Students applying to the major are required to submit a supplemental application. New applicants, including transfer students, must be admitted to the University prior to applying to the major.

New students seeking to declare Health Science and who are accepted into the university, will be given the designation of Expressed Interest (EI) until they are formally accepted into the program by our department.

HLSC FAQs & Requirements
The FAQs handout covers questions and answers relating to the Health Science Impaction process.  Should you have any further general questions, please contact our department office.

Our Health Science program offers three concentrations options: Health Care Administration (HCA), Community Health Education (CHE) and Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S).

To be considered for admission to the Health Science program, all applicants must meet the following requirements:

(1) a 2.0 minimum in overall GPA, and
(2) the completion of 45 units, and
(3) a course grade of "C" or above in all required prerequisite courses:

  • BIO 25-Anatomy & Physiology I,
  • BIO 26-Anatomy & Physiology II,
  • CHEM 6A-Intro. to General Chemistry, and
  • STAT 1-Intro. to Statistics
  • OR the equivalents as listed on ASSIST

All prerequisites must be completed prior to admission into the BS program. Eligible applicants will be admitted for available spaces within a specified concentration based on overall GPA rank ordering of such applicants.  Priority may be given to applicants who have completed all prerequisites.  Health Science does not approve double majors.  It is highly recommended that interested students attend an advising session prior to applying.
