Sacramento State's Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program participates in the Physical Therapist Centralized Application Service, known as PTCAS.  To submit your application please visit www.PTCAS.org and following the instructions provided.  In addition to the PTCAS application all applicants are REQUIRED to submit their DPT Supplemental Prerequisite Worksheet with their PTCAS application.  Complete the online application and submit the following supporting documents with your PTCAS application: 

Prepare to Apply

  • Review the Admission Requirements listed on our webpage and on PTCAS to verify you have met all the minimum requirements.
  • Make sure you are on track to complete your prerequisite coursework by the required timeline.
  • Complete your volunteer/work hours by the deadline.
  • Identify who will be willing to write your letters of recommendation.
  • Take the GRE

Submit your PTCAS application

Apply at www.PTCAS.org and select "California State University, Sacramento" as a program of interest. Submit your online PTCAS application by October 2, 2017.  The following supporting  documents must be submitted through PTCAS:

  • Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score report: Applicants must arrange for the Educational Testing Service (ETS) to send official GRE scores through PTCAS using the Sacramento State GRE code 7588;
  •  Official Transcripts: Applicants must arrange for PTCAS to receive official transcripts from each college and university attended.
  • Official TOEFL score report sent to code 5312 if applicable;
  • Letters of Recommendation.  Applicants must arrange for references to be submitted electronically through PTCAS.  Submit two letters from licensed physical therapists and one from a college professor to be received by PTCAS by the application deadline date;
  • Observation Hours: All required observation hours must be completed and verified by the deadline date.

Complete your DPT Supplemental Prerequisite Worksheet

As part of completing the application, all applicants must submit the DPT Supplemental Prerequisite Worksheet.  Once you complete your worksheet upload it to your PTCAS application by the October 2, 2017 deadline.

Submit your Cal State Apply Application

Only applicants that receive an interview invitation will be asked to submit the University application through Cal State ApplyPlease do not submit your Cal State Apply until you are notified to do so by the Physical Therapy Department.

Domestic Applicants with Foreign Documents

Domestic applicants applying with transcripts from outside the U.S. must complete 8 units of prerequisite coursework at a U.S. accredited college or university.  Prerequisite courses taken outside the U.S. must be completed by the end of the Fall semester prior to matriculation.  For additional information visit the Office of Graduate Studies website and select Applicants with Foreign Documents.

Selection Procedures

All application materials are reviewed by the Admissions Committee to rank applicants. Points are assigned for the prerequisite coursework GPA, letters of recommendation forms, the GRE writing (analytic) and quantitative scores and additional background criteria. The 100 highest ranked applicants will be invited for an individual interview. Interviews are tentatively expected to be conducted in late January or early February each year.  The top thirty-two (32) applicants, along with the alternates, will be notified of their status within two weeks of the final interviews.
