Notice to Students Interested in Out-of-State Clinical Placements

State Authorization

Sacramento State monitors developments in state laws regarding authorizations that may be required for students to complete coursework (for example, internships) in a state outside of California. If the University determines that authorization is necessary or authorization becomes necessary, it will seek out the appropriate approval.  DPT students seeking clinical internships out-of-state will have their clinical practicum course placements subject to state authorization requirements, which may cause a delay in, or cancellation of, the internship placement.

Applicants with Foreign Documents

Domestic or Foreign applicants applying with transcripts from outside the U.S. must complete at least 8 units of prerequisite coursework at a U.S. accredited college or university, and have references from U.S. or Canadian licensed physical therapists.  Only volunteer/observation hours completed at facilities in the U.S. will be considered.  Applicants with foreign documents may be required to submit additional documentation.  Visit the Office of Graduates Studies website at for additional information.
