The Organization of American Historians has nominated Shirley Ann Wilson Moore to serve on the Liberty Legacy Foundation Award commitee which gives an annual prize for the best book by a historian on the civil rights struggle. In October 2010 Dr. Moore will serve as chair for the panel "Community Politicians: African American Intellectuals and Activism in the Western U.S." at the Western History Association's annual conference in Nevada. In 2009 she was chosen by the National Park Service to write an interpretive narrative on African Americans on the Overland Trails. It is scheduled for publication in 2011.

Dr. Moore also serves as advisor to the Rosie the Riveter World War II Home Front National Historical Park Project. In 2008 she wrote a new introduction to Rudolph M. Lapp's groundbreaking book, "Archy Lee: A California Fugitive Slave Case," which was reprinted by Heyday Press in 2008. Her first book, "To Place Our Deeds: The African American Community in Richmond, California, 1910-1963" (Univ. California Press, 2000), received the City of Richmond's Historical Preservation Award. In 2004 she also co-edited a book with Quintard Taylor, "African American Women Confront the West, 1600-2000," (University of Oklahoma Press) which was the recipient of the American Library Association's CHOICE Award in 2004.
