Send Herky a Birthday Tribute Video!
Win an iPod and glory.
Entries due by noon, Friday, Oct. 12, 2007.
The Sacramento State Alumni Association invites budding Spielbergs to submit a birthday tribute video to Herky the Hornet on YouTube. Entries will be judged by an expert team of faceless drones, all extremely knowledgeable in cinematography, literary theory and entomology. The winner gets an iPod. YouTube viewers may rate the videos, and the winning “People’s Choice” entry will also receive an iPod.
How to Enter
To enter the contest, you must sign in to YouTube, upload your video and join the Herky Birthday Video Tribute group. We will review your entry and, if appropriate, post it to the group.
Videos may be any length but must wish Herky a happy 60th birthday. Also, Herky’s birthday coincides with Homecoming (vs. Montana) on October 13, so it wouldn’t hurt to put in a plug for that. Please, no copyrighted or offensive material.
Prizes
1st place: 80 GB iPod Classic
People’s Choice: 4GB iPod Nano (a green one, of course!)
Plus: 20 Java City gift cards will be given at random to qualifying entries. Winning entries will be streamed on Sacramento State’s website and announced at the Homecoming Festival Main Stage on Oct. 13 at 1:45 p.m.
Prizes are provided by the Sacramento State Alumni Association, not using state dollars.
Judging Criteria:
Videos will be judged on the following criteria (in no particular order):
-originality of birthday message
-promotion of Sac State Homecoming 2007
-humor
-blatantly made-up stories about Herky
-actual footage of hornets
-plot and character development
Some ideas to get you going:
Do you have an amusing story about Herky when he was just a larva?
Did Herky stand you up on a date in 1972?
Have you ever spotted a Herky wardrobe malfunction?
What would you like to see Herky accomplish in his next 60 years?
Can you interview another team mascot and get a birthday tribute?
…or simply offer your heartfelt birthday wishes.
Contest Rules
Videos must include a ‘Happy Birthday Herky” message of some kind.
Please be at least somewhat respectful toward Herky, Hornet Athletics and California State University, Sacramento.
No copyrighted or offensive materials.
Winners must agree to be photographed, videotaped, interviewed and used shamelessly for promotional purposes.
California State University, Sacramento is not responsible for any claims of any nature arising from your video.
Staff members of University Advancement (Offices of Alumni Relations, Development and Public Affairs) may submit videos but are not qualified to win.
You must be 18 years of age or older to win.
Sacramento State reserves the right to alter the contest at any time.
The decisions of the judges are final.
The California State University, Sacramento Office of Public Affairs is the sole interpreter of these rules and reserves the right to disqualify any contest entry for any reason.
