An attorney who was injured at last year's Causeway Classic is set to sue the university, according to a column in last Tuesday's Sacramento Bee.

CSUS President Donald Gerth denied that there are any problems in settlement talks with Hilson.

The article reported that Bill Hilson is threatening to sue the university for injuries sustained Sept. 20 when the step he was standing on gave way and he fell approximately 30 feet. Hilson's injuries included four fractured ribs and three compressed vertebrates.

"My understanding is that things are going fine," Gerth said. "I was startled by the article and as far as I know, it's not accurate."

Gerth said he instructed the university's attorneys to look into the allegations that Hilson is threatening to sue.

"The last conversation I had with Hilson was several months ago and things seemed to be going fine. Our position is that we know that we have a responsibility and we will take care of it," he said.

Hilson, a real estate attorney with the firm of McDonough Holland & Allen, could not be reached for comment.
