Helms resigns and ASI needs replacementHornet News StaffPublished September 2, 1998 Associated Students Inc. Executive Vice President Jennifer Helms resigned in May, shortly after winning the April election. Helms, a graduating senior when she ran for the office, decided not to attend graduate school in the fall, making her ineligible to hold office. "Jennifer decided that she couldn't attend this semester and she moved back to southern California," ASI President Gary Davis said. Helms was involved with ASI as Director for Arts and Letters during the 1997-98 term. The ASI board also has an opening for Directors of Undeclared students. Applicants for either position must have a 2.5 gpa. To apply for the executive vice president position, the applicant must have taken 45 units. Davis said ASI would accept applications for at least "a couple of weeks." He will conduct interviews as the applications come in. Traditionally, the ASI president recommends his choices to the board for approval, but Davis is hoping to change the process to involve more board members in making the recommendation. "The vice president position is such an important position because so many people work with that person," he said. Applications can be picked up at the ASI office on the third floor of the University Union.
