Letters to the Editor

Calling All Students

Hornets! I hope you are as happy with the start of our new semester as we in the ASI Office are. The first week of school is always a chaotic and stressful one. The fact that we made it through this last week should be a positive sign for the semester to come.

This year you'll hear many things from me. I'll talk about this year being that of a 'Student Friendly' Student Government. I will remind you that we here at ASI work for you. I'll also tell you that I want to help you get the highest possible return on your investment. All of these things are true and we will give you 100 percent this year.

My reason for writing this letter today is to ask for your help! We will only be successful this year if we can work together as a student body. Our campus is a very diverse community and we have many different views. However, if we come together and work toward some common goals, we can make a difference. We are only as strong as our ability to organize.

Here are a few of the issues that we need your help to address:

1. Alleviating the parking situation on campus.

2. Addressing equality issues for students with disabilities on our campus.

3. Opening the lines of communication and getting the word out about ASI.

4. Expanding the recycling program on campus.

5. Coordinating and producing more fun and educational events on campus.

6. Ensuring that we represent every student on our very diverse campus.

7. Lobbying the state legislature to support higher education.

8. Ensuring and improving the quality of the Sac State degree.

9. Strengthening the clubs and organizations on campus.

10. Training freshman students to become the future leaders of our campus.

This is just the beginning! We are going to make it happen this year. We are going to set a new precedent for ASI Boards in the future. Get involved today and make for a better college experience tomorrow. Call me at 278-6784, e-mail me at davisgs@csus.edu, stop by the ASI office in the Union, or come see me on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. in the Library Quad. We can do it if we work together!

ASI President

Parking woes

I'm writing this little letter to appeal to the students of Sac State with regards to the parking situation this year.

OK, here's the problem: No matter what, I can't seem to get a space. I've tried everything from stalking people across the parking lot, to getting to school early, but I'm not getting anything but dirty looks and gridlock.

Personally, I think we need to have more of a family atmosphere on campus when it comes to parking. If you are walking out to your car after a class, don't be afraid. Jump in someone else's car and get a ride to your spot. I think that's something we could all start doing. If someone is following you as you're walking across campus, and you are tired of feeling their car on your backside, then ask them to give you a ride to your spot. What's the big deal? If you are an attractive girl, you know those platforms are hurting your feet. Jump in my passenger seat and I'll give you a foot massage on the way to your car!

OK, maybe that sounded like a little too much information, or a pathetic attempt to pick up campus chicks that dig a guy with a foot fetish, but really I just want your parking space.

For the love of God, I can't stand to walk two miles in the blazing 100-degree temperatures one more day this year. In this world, sometimes we all need a little help, and I need your parking space.
