Sac State's Ice Hockey team needs hot players to melt the ice of their competitors in the upcoming season.

The Ice Hockey Club is set to play eight tentatively scheduled games this season, with more on the horizon, and it needs three or four more players to fill its roster. It has 13 players, but 18 names must be on the list for the club to be a competitor.

The Hornets went 4-5 last year in their house league, highlighted by their narrow 4-3 loss to UC, Davis. They are set to join the Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA) as an official member next season. The PCHA boasts a current membership of ten teams, which includes Long Beach State, San Jose State, and UCD, among others.

As of now, the Hornet season will begin on Oct.17 with a match against Long Beach State. Following are home-and-home clashes against 1996-97 PCHA Division II Champions UCD on Oct.23 and 24, officially dubbed Ice-Cold Causeway Classics II and III. Games against San Jose State, two more against UCD, and Pepperdine will close out the season in March. All home games will be played at Skatetown Ice Rink in Roseville.

President Mark Yuill, a senior majoring in Business Administration, leads the club.

"The team has been practicing hard and is looking to be more aggressive this season, because it's a rough sport and we need to play rough, especially if we are to be successful in the league next year," said Yuill, who plays center and right wing.

He expressed a good evaluation of his team's chances against UCD: "Davis is going down!"

For the club's entire season schedule, as well as individual player biographies on Yuill and the rest of the team, log on to the club's web page at http://www.csus.edu/org/icehocky. You can also contact Yuill by calling 338-5420.

The team will be selling hockey jerseys bearing the team logo at the Sports Rec Center and at home games throughout the season. Anyone interested in joining the team can visit the team's sign-up booth in the library quad next Monday through Thursday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
