Review: 'Night at the Roxbury' is worth seeingHeather VandenburgHornet Staff Writer October 5, 1998 "A Night at the Roxbury," the latest "Saturday Night Live" skit to jump to the silver screen, shows Doug and Steve Butabi (Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan, respectively) trying to enter the Hollywood club scene only to be constantly rejected, but totally unfazed.
Sporting iridescent suits, silver chains and side burns, the Butabi brothers are confident they are cool enough to go wherever the night takes them. But the bouncers at the nightclubs don't think so, and keep them out on the street-- until an unexpected event escorts them into the mega-hip Roxbury Club and a life they have only dreamed about. Within hours, the brothers go from "please don't ask me to dance" geeks to "let's dance because you might be rich," geeks. The night is filled with "hotty overload," "Fluffy Whip," Richard Greico and the Roxbury crowd. The hilarious film is directed by John Fortenbary and derived from a screen play by Steve Koen, Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan. v They've got music, they've got rhythm, now all they need is the women to go with 'em. They might realize that oil and vinegar don't mix and that doormen exist for a reason, or maybe this night will be different. "A Night at the Roxbury," although slow to start, is worth seeing for the gut-busting-out-of-nowhere comments. If nothing else, this fantastically funny movie is deserving of four out of five stars, just for the wedding scene and the flamboyant outfits.
