Residence hall officials and the Student Activity Office are investigating an incident involving a fraternity pledge who was found unconscious in Desmond Hall after a night of drinking on October 1.

According to residence hall officials, the 18-year-old man was found in the first-floor bathroom. Paramedics were called to assist the resident, a Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity pledge.

The man was transferred to a local hospital, where he was treated for an elevated blood alcohol level.

"We are currently investigating where the student obtained the alcohol," said Lou Camera, director of Student Activities. The Student Activity Office has oversight of fraternities and sororities on campus.

"At this point, there is not a direct link," he said. "It doesn't appear to be a pledge function."

His office's investigation is continuing, he said.

Cynthia Cockrill, director of Housing and Residential Life, said her office will be conducting an investigation as well.
