Womyn Take Back the Night in Chico

Two weeks after the phenomenal success of the 19th annual Women Take Back the Night rally and march in Sacramento, the Chico State Womyn's Center (yes, that's spelled correctly) will hold a march of its own tonight.

The center expanded the traditional nighttime rally to a day's worth of events which include guest speakers, displays and information tables. Their objective is to educate students and the community about women's issues including domestic violence and rape. The march will begin at 7 p.m. in the Free Speech Area on the Chico State campus. Only 200 people participated last year, and the center hopes 1000 will march this year.

Chico State is approximately an hour and a half away from Sacramento, depending on how willing you are to obey the speed limit. To get to the center, take Highway 99 north to Chico. Once you're in Chico, exit onto East First Ave. and go left at the light. Continue driving down East First Ave. (which turns into-- surprise!-- West First Ave.) until you reach a four-way stop at Warner St. Go left and drive down Warner; you're now on campus. Drive all the way down until you reach the light on First St. and turn right. Enter the parking structure on the left and park on the top story. Walk onto campus along 1st Street, and you'll find the Meriam Library on the left and the Free Speech Area soon after. For more information, call the center at (530) 898.5724.
