Hornets host Golden Gate showdown for HomecomingBy Josh EllisHornet Staff Writer October 16, 1998 (5 p.m.) This year's Homecoming Game will feature two of the league's California teams, Cal State Northridge and our own Sac State Hornets. The Matadors come into the game at 4-1 overall and 3-0 in league. The Hornets (2-4, 0-3) will try to bounce back from their disappointing loss to Portland State last weekend. Sac State running back Charles Roberts looks to add to his season total of 1,096 yards rushing this weekend. Roberts has rushed over 150 yards in five consecutive games. He is currently seventh on the single-season top 10 list for Sac State and has moved up to number five on the CSUS career rushing list. For the first time in a few weeks, the Hornets will go into a game with three quarterbacks. A.J. Bernhardt will try to continue his effectiveness this Saturday against Northridge. In last year's meeting, the Hornets fell in overtime to the Matadors 45-38 at Cal State Northridge. Coach Volek realizes that this year's game is important to his squad. "This is a gut-check for us. We need to find ourselves. We had a good game plan going into the Portland State game and we need to find out where the emotion went and bring it back."
