Editorial: Lessons to be learned

Published October 21, 1998

It isn't often that you see ASI president Gary Davis legally drunk and on the same stage as President Gerth.

Last Thursday, three students took part in Natural High Awareness Week sponsored by CSUS Recreational Sports.

The light-hearted affair consisted of students consuming lots of beer, wine, and vodka to demonstrate the effects of alcohol.

The real effects of drinking, however, became most clear only after the event as the three volunteers attempted to function normally, with varying degrees of success, for the rest of the day.

We're pleased to be be able to poke fun at Davis rather than having to print stories on date rapes involving alcohol or students killed while driving drunk.

Drinking responsibly is a smart thing to do in any situation. Perhaps the example set by Davis and the other two volunteers will remind people that they probably can't handle as much alcohol as think they can.
