CSUS had a reversal of fortune Saturday night after they stunned the No. 16-ranked Cal State Northridge in front of 5,947 people. Those who attended the Homecoming battle between the Golden Gate teams of the Big Sky left with a sense of pride that reached full potential when players and fans alike sang the team fight song immediately after the game.

No one was prepared for what happened. The Matadors entered the contest undefeated in league play until running back Charles Roberts and the Hornet defense did their impression of "The Running of the Bulls."

Think about it. With all the hoopla going on in baseball this year, it's easy to overlook that no dog was as consistently far under as the San Diego Padres. The Padres were the worst team in baseball just five years ago. They were playing this year not only to have a winning season, but to get their city to vote for a new stadium to keep them from leaving.

Ice hockey may not be as big as other team sports at CSUS, but if Hornet Hockey keeps posting scores like the result from Saturday night's tilt against future Pacific Coast Hockey Association rival San Jose State, the frosty sport could become the biggest thing since frozen peas.
