The fraternity and sorority scholarship reception, which has been postponed from its original Sept. 30 date, is attempting to take a giant step to correct the overall low GPA of members here at Sacramento State.

Heather Dunn-Carlton, Sacramento State's Greek advisor, is organizing a scholarship reception to be held sometime in the Fall semester. Her goal is to raise the fraternity and sorority GPA above the all men's and all women's GPA. Currently the all men's GPA is 2.7 and the all women's GPA is 2.9.

It will be up to the individual chapters as to who they wish to attend the reception, but Dunn-Carlton hopes to have a large group of both students who excel in their classes and students who are struggling.

The scholarship reception will include activities that are designed to find out both why students aren't doing well in their classes, and to learn how to mimic the habits of those who are doing well.

Dunn-Carlton is adopting the idea from the University of Southern California, which has had an increase in their GPA following the implementation of the scholarship reception.
