Guest Column: Fair share union plan deserves a second look
I guess Im one of the union bosses David Yow knocks in last weeks column, though its pretty hard to keep up a penthouse, a road hog and much back-up muscle on a CSU faculty salary. I do support SB 645, the fair share bill, though not for the reasons Yow proposes. His argument and indictments are offered without first looking at the facts. I guess we could still to do better at CSUS teaching research methods.
Guest Column: Why is faculty union afraid to take a vote?
I noted with interest the commentary by David Yow criticizing the so-called fair share bill passed recently by the state legislature, which would authorize the California Faculty Association (the union which nominally represents CSUS faculty) to collect fees from nonmembers. Those fees would run around $400 to $650 per year for full-time faculty.
