Volleyball beats Bobcats, takes over third place
Sam Amick
Watch out Big Sky, here they come. After a fairly un-Hornet like slow start this season, the Sac State volleyball team extended their winning streak to five in a five-game win over Nevada Tuesday in the Hornet gym. The scores were 15-4, 9-15, 15-10, 10-15, and 15-11 pushing the team's overall record to 11-6. Leading the way was junior Sarah Chlebana who recorded 19 kills and 17 digs. Senior Angela Lewis and freshman Jayme Wright both broke double digits in kills while Maureen Rafferty, Wright, Lewis and Chlebana all recorded double-doubles in kills and digs. In the final game, the Hornets jumped out to a 10-3 lead. The Wolf Pack fought back but never got closer than three points. The victory was sealed. Coming up on the heels of conference leader Eastern Washington, the Hornets overtook second place with the win over the Wolf Pack. The Sac State squad, which has claimed the Big Sky crown for two consecutive seasons, continues it's three-peat quest tonight against Montana at Hornet gym. Game time is 7 p.m. |
