Weightlifting Club dominates American OpenVince Faiola
Weightlifting may be one of the most strenuous of sports, but that doesn't mean success can't come with ease. Success has become the standard for Team Sacramento, the Sac State Weight Lifting Club. The American Open, held on October 11th in San Jose, may have only been a brief stop for a squad expected to compete for national prominence, but it was an undeniably successful one. Team Sacramento women won the overall team competition while individually seven members placed first or second in their weight class. "Our team performed great." president Kathy Redcher-Bowing said. "A lot of personal records were broken." Jeremy Arsich had a great showing while competing in the 231-pound weight class. Arsich lifted 237 pounds in the snatch and 275 pounds in the clean and jerk. His final score of 506 pounds placed him second overall in the junior competition. Heidi Carpenter placed first in her weight class and garnered recognition as the most outstanding female with her lifts of 148.4 pounds in the snatch and 181.5 pounds in the clean and jerk. Team Sacramento also turned in other notable individual performances. Kathy Redcher-Bowling, Sanh Nguyen, Erin Doyle, and Justin Carvalho all placed first in their respective weight classes. Although success has come easily for Team Sacramento so far this young season, the squad remains focused on its road to national prominence |
