B-ball tourney targets fun, help for kidsKeith Reid
The Hoopla Basketball Association's 1999 three-on-three tournament will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 30-31 at Cal Expo, building C for ages 12 and up. Nearly 15,000 males and females are expected to participate. The day will be filled with basketball, food, information on community issues and live music. NBA celebrities and the Police Athletic League will be present to sign autographs and give advice to the youngsters. A $100-per-team entry fee will go to purchasing new computers for low-income children, a mentoring program for at-risk youth, computer classes for low-income households, a sports camp for children during the summer and winter months, and promotion of health and exercise. Registration forms are available at Dorians Barber Salon at Florin Rd. and 24th Street, Sam Goody in Florin Mall, Salvation Army, the YMCA, 24-Hr. Fitness, California Family Fitness, Meadowview Community Center, all Parks and Recreation offices, or online at www.hoopla.cc. | |
