Alumni association builds support for new center one brick at a timeAmy Kelly
Construction of the 12,000 square foot Steve Yamshon Alumni Center is currently underway at the south end of campus. Alumni have already raised $2.6 million, which will cover the initial costs of building, according to Steve Black, Executive Director of Alumni Relations. Money is still needed to cover the cost of enhancements such as signs, landscaping, and flagpoles. The Center is being built by Harbison, Mahony & Higgins, a Sacramento construction firm. Partner and CSUS alumnus John Messner has been instrumental in arranging in kind gifts in the form of materials and volunteer labor, Black said. To help complete fundraising, the Alumni Association is encouraging alumni, parents, fraternities, sororities, athletic teams, campus organizations, and athletic to purchase bricks as part of its "Brick Campaign." Bricks will be engraved with the name of the person or group and displayed near the center's main entrance. The Alumni Center is scheduled to be completed by the end of May.
