The department of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies will hold a tribute for late Sacramento mayor and CSUS professor Joe Serna in the University Union Ballroom on Dec. 9. The department is organizing the ceremony for faculty, staff and students.

"Though we do not have a sense of how many people will attend, Joe Serna was a very popular colleague and teacher; we expect a sizable turnout," Dean Joseph F. Sheley said.

Several members of the university community will be offering short tributes to Serna as a friend, teacher, and colleague.

"The campus community is invited to attend this memorial service to pay tribute to a faculty member who had the rare opportunity not only to serve the university well, but also to have such a direct impact upon the community," said Sheley. "We wish formally to offer thanks for all he did and, by recalling his accomplishments, to encourage others to follow his example."

For more information concerning Joe Serna's memorial, contact Joseph Sheley at 278-6504, or go to Amador Hall room 255.
