The San Jose Spartans visited the Sac State ice hockey club this weekend, seeking revenge after two one-sided losses earlier this season.

The Spartans were forced once again to walk away with a loss after the Hornets defeated them 7-1 in the game at the SkateTown Ice Arena in Roseville.

“We beat them 12-2 and 6-3 earlier in the year so there may have been a little bit of bad blood,” coach Dave Mello said.

The Hornets and Spartans both committed 10 team penalties in the Hornet-dominated contest.

“The game started out clean but then people just started hitting,” forward Josh Roberts said.

The Hornets bombarded the Spartans with 63 shots on goal while Hornet goalie Mike Schlottman stopped 16 of the Spartans' 17 shots on goal.
