Marijuana use is widespread among students

A flick of the lighter, the crackling of the flame as it consumes the Zig-Zag paper, a deep inhalation, and then the room is filled with the sweet, skunky odor of marijuana. Jennifer, a 20-year-old sophomore, slowly smiles upon exhalation and with half-closed eyes offers the joint to her friend, William. “It’s your hit,” she says.

Call it weed, pot, grass, reefer, or even pizza – marijuana use among college students is more widespread than we might think. Like many other students who smoke marijuana, Jennifer probably would never be suspected of drug use if not for her frequently half-closed eyes. Wearing blue jeans, a button-down shirt and stylish loafers, she is dressed like many other college students her age.

Music Notes: Striking Gold
They’re as American as apple pie. They’re flannel-clad, whiskey-drinkin’, and baseball cap-wearin’ boys from the hills of Amador County. Make no mistake about it – Forever Goldrush is a throwback to a simpler time, when music was AM radio, and food was meat and potatoes.

Rec Center modeled after San Diego’s
ASI members were so impressed with the way San Diego State developed its recreation center, they stole its idea. The plans for CSUS’s fitness/event/recreation/student center follow the Aztec center, but students at Sac State will be required to pay a full fee for total privileges and the plan does not guarantee CSUS students an arena.

Picture perfect arts festival
The CSUS Festival of the Arts will showcase diversity in exhibits and performances from each of the fine arts departments. This seventh annual celebration of creative expression runs through Saturday and each day features several events.
