River City DayBy Heather VandenburgState Hornet Published April 28, 1999 Get on board; Friday is the Universitys annual River City Day. The campus open house will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature on-the-spot admission and enrollment information for new and prospective students. This is an opportunity for the community to check us out and see what we do, said Bill Olmsted, program advisor for UNIQUE. The event used to take place for a week, but has dwindled down to one day. Different activities will be held in the Library quad, including dance performances, music and martial arts. The ski club brings down snow and creates a ski jump to entertain people, said Olmsted. Some clubs even allow students to participate in events. Food booths will be set up by the clubs in order to raise money for their organizations. Later in the evening, CSUS will host its first Ticket to College Bowl and Concert. The Green and Gold scrimmage football game and concert afterward will feature ska band Lets Go Bowling and special guest band secondchance, a local band from Stockton. Lets Go Bowling is a new, happening ska band trying to make their way, so we are bringing them to campus to do just that, said Tim Cochrane, director of Green Thunder, who is sponsoring the event along with the Greek Council. Awards for Greek Week will be presented during the concert.that will take place at Hornet Stadium around 9 p.m., after the game. Tickets cost $5 and include both the concert and the football game. All proceeds will go toward the Boys and Girls Club of America. The game starts at 6:30 p.m., but tickets go on sale at 5:30 p.m. Students can buy tickets at Bass Tickets outside of the University Union or, if they dont mind paying a surcharge, at any Bass off campus.
