Television Services Upgrade
August 16th, 2007
Last Spring the Housing and Residential Life department conducted an online web survey via Student Voice to find out how we could continue to deliver superior television service to the Residence Hall population. 31% of the Residence Hall population participated in the survey and shared their thoughts including: satisfaction with the current system, hours of television watched, additional comments for improvements to the system, and a list of additional programming which could possibly be added. 43% of those that completed the survey were satisfied or very satisfied with the current television system. 36% of the survey participants freely commented on the television system.
Here is the action we have taken in regards to the survey results:
Concern #1: Some television networks are East coast feeds (3 hours ahead). Attempting to locate specific program times is difficult.
Resolution #1: A new program guide channel will be added to the line-up. This channel will include a current listing of the channel lineup along with programming date/time information. This channel will also offer additional bulletins and programs announcements related to the Residence Halls. Television services available in the residence halls are a satellite feed-- while local networks are Pacific time, major satellite networks are based on Eastern time (3 hours ahead).
Concern #2: While the current television system offered a variety of channels it was stated that possible additional programming would improve the service and would assist to please everyone's desire.
Resolution #2: Based on the survey results for additional television networks and the need to offer a variety of programming from news, entertainment, educational, Spanish, sports, lifestyle, etc we have improved the channel line up from 34 channels to over 65 channels. We hope that by not only providing a variety of channels to the Residence Hall population we will be able to fill their desire and additionally expand their knowledge on other networks continuing to provide education outside of the classroom.
The additional television programming additions are scheduled to be completed by the end of this Friday, August 17, 2007 with the line-up guide channel premiering shortly before Residence Hall opening for Fall 2007.
We hope you enjoy the service upgrades.
