Theme Communities

stingers upThere are seven theme communities offered to residents, each coordinated by housing staff and a Sacramento State faculty member. Please indicate your interest below. Residents not interested in theme community living should select "No Community" in the pull-down menu below.

If accepted into a Themed Community, your roommate/suitemate(s) that you may have selected during the Roommate/Suitemate selection process may become void. 

WELLness Community

The WELLness Community brings together residents who share common interests and goals in an active lifestyle, recreation, and a commitment to explore wellness (physical). As members of this community, residents have the unique opportunity to participate in specialized programs, retreats, activities, and to develop relationships with faculty and staff members. This community is ideal for those who like sports, engaging in the playing of sports attending and watch sporting events and those who enjoy working out/ fitness programs. 

Leadership Community

The Leadership Community brings together residents who share common interests and goals in developing their leadership skills, having leadership experiences, and getting involved in campus clubs and organization. As members of this community, residents have the unique opportunity to participate in specialized programs, such as the Leadership Initiative, workshops, retreats, and community activities revolving leadership development. 

Global Awareness Community

The Global Awareness Community brings together residents who share common interests in sustainability, current events and issues, and gaining awareness about different cultures. As members of this community, residents have a unique opportunity to become more globally aware. As such, this floor is also a great place for students interested in majors such as foreign languages, ethnic studies, and business with an international emphasis, political science, sociology, speech communication, women’s studies, and those who just want to share their story with others. This community is ideal for students who want to develop a greater understanding of difference and how individuals can promote positive change in society. This community is located on the first floor even side of Sutter Hall.

Community Engagement

The Community Engagement brings together residents who share common interests in volunteer work, community service and engaging with the community that surrounds Sac State.  As members of this community, residents have the unique opportunity to participate in specialized programs, like the American River Clean-Up, Alternative Spring Break, workshops, retreats, and community activities revolving around service and community engagement. 

International Living Community

The International Theme community brings together structured programming geared to support and build community among our international residents and US residents.  Residents of this theme community will engage in cultural exchange programming and support students who may be interested in studying abroad.  As members of this community, residents have the unique opportunity to participate in specialized programs, engage in learning another language and building community with international students.

Students in this community will live in various room types within the American River Courtyard.  This includes a 5x2 suite (One student per bedroom and share two bathrooms) or a 2x2 suite (2 students per bedroom with both sharing the same bathroom).  The students selected for this community will live in the same suite with domestic and international students.

Honors Community

The Honors Program Community brings together residents who are accepted into the General Education Honors Program and who want to live on campus.  This theme community will honor the mission and vision of the General Education Honors Program by providing an “opportunity to have a challenging, innovative, and stimulating learning experience” in the residence hall. There will be classes offered in Riverview Hall and a shared community living experience that will include social programming, faculty discussions, and guest speaker lectures. 

Women in Leadership

The Women’s in Leadership bring together residents who share common interests in the support and celebration of women in leadership and as leaders.  As members of this community residents have the unique opportunity to participate in specialized programs, workshops, retreats, and community activities revolving around women, leadership and celebrating the life of women.
