Effective Dates and Deadlines

New employees or newly eligible employees have 60 days from their qualifying appointment to enroll in benefits.  The effective date is based on the date you submit your enrollment worksheet to the Human Resources Benefits Office.

Faculty Only:  The earliest effective date for Fall appointments is October 1 and   March 1 for Spring appointments

Dental Benefits:

The effective date for dental benefits is the first of the month following submission of your signed enrollment worksheet to the Human Resources, Benefits Office.

Dependent Care: 

Enrollments authorized on or before the 8th of the month are effective the first of the following month. Enrollments authorized from the 9th through the end of the month are effective the first of the 2nd month following submission of your signed enrollment worksheet to the Benefits Office.

Flex Cash:

Enrollments authorized on or before the 8th of the month are effective the first of the following month. Enrollments authorized from the 9th through the end of the month are effective the first of the 2nd month following submission of your signed enrollment worksheet to the Benefits Office.

Health Benefits: 

The effective date for health benefits is the first of the month following the submission of your signed enrollment worksheet to the Human Resources, Benefits Office.  Note: FACULTY ONLYThe earliest effective date for Fall appointments is October 1 and March 1 for Spring appointments.

Healthcare Reimbursement:

Enrollments authorized on or before the 8th of the month are effective the first of the following month. Enrollments authorized from the 9th through the end of the month are effective the first of the 2nd month following submission of your signed enrollment worksheet to the Benefits Office.

Life Insurance:

(Employer-paid only)  Enrollment is automatic and effective the first of the month following your eligible appointment.

Long Term Disability:

(Employer-paid only)  Enrollment is automatic and effective the first day of active employment and/or the first day you are physically at work.

Tax Advantage Plan:

This program is automatic.  Appointments on or before the 8th of the month allows coverage the first of the following month.

Tax Sheltered Annuities: 

TSA deferral changes are now initiated by the employee online through Retirement Manager. Effective with the 2010 tax year, which begins with the December pay period, the cutoff day to make changes in Retirement Manager is now the 5th of each month by 9:59 PM Pacific Standard Time (PST), or the next business day by 9:59 PM if the 5th falls on a holiday or weekend.

Vision Benefits:

The vision program is automatic. The effective date for vision benefits is the first of the month following the date of your appointment.
