Eligible full-time employees accrue eight (8)
hours of sick leave credit following the completion of each
qualifying pay period or academic qualifying pay period. Employees
who work less than full-time, but are eligible to accrue sick
leave credit, will accrue credit on a pro rata basis.
For accrual purposes, a qualifying pay period for a full and/or
part time employee is defined as a monthly pay period of continuous
service.
For intermittent employees, a qualifying pay period for sick
leave accrual is defined as 160 hours or 20 days of paid employment.
Sick leave balances may be carried forward year to year, and
there is no maximum accrual limit for sick leave credit.
Accrued sick leave upon retirement from CSU employment may
be used to receive additional service credit under CalPERS,
in accordance with CalPERS guidelines.
CSU employees earn vacation pursuant to Title
5 (Division 5, Chapter 1, Subchapter 7, Article 4 Vacations).
Title 5 governs vacation for nonrepresented and represented
employees. However, Title 5 may be superseded by collective
bargaining for represented employees pursuant to Education
Code 89500.
For most employees, vacation is earned for each qualifying
pay period at a rate based on an employee's length of service
and employee category. Some employees, in specified employee
categories, earn vacation at a set accrual rate without regard
to length of service. Vacation is available to be taken on
the first day of the monthly pay period following completion
of each qualifying monthly pay period of service.
Part-time employees accrue vacation credit on a pro-rata basis.
Hourly employees earn paid vacation upon completion of 160
hours of qualifying service. Academic year employees are not
eligible to earn vacation. Some non-academic employees are
not eligible to earn vacation including employees working as
student assistants, graduate assistants, resident assistants,
and casual workers. Employees working in trade rate classifications
earn vacation based on applicable trade rate procedures.
Upon separation from service, an employee is entitled to a
lump sum payment at the time of separation for any unused or
accumulated vacation and/or Personal Holiday credit. Such sum
is computed by projecting the accumulated time on a calendar
basis so that the lump sum will equal the amount, which the
employee would have been paid had he/she taken the time off,
but not separated from service.
Employees earn 14 paid holidays each year; 13 scheduled on
a specific day and one Personal Holiday that can be taken any
time during the year. Academic year employees are entitled
to all days designated as academic holidays on the campus academic
calendar. Part-time employees earn their personal holiday on
a pro-rata basis. The following paid holidays are observed
on the day specified:

- Last Monday in May (Memorial Day)
- Admission Day
- Second Monday in October (Columbus Day)
- November 11 (Veteran's Day)
Any holiday listed above which falls on a Saturday is observed
on the preceding Friday. Any holiday which falls on a Sunday
is observed on the following Monday.
An employee on the payroll on the day a holiday is officially
observed is entitled to the holiday. The number of hours of
the holiday shall be determined by the hours the employee is
normally scheduled to work on the day the holiday is observed.
An employee is entitled to one (1) Personal Holiday, which
must be taken on one (1) day during the calendar year. If the
employee fails to take the Personal Holiday before the end
of the year, the holiday is forfeited.

status on a day a holiday is officially observed is not be
entitled to the holiday.
If a holiday falls on a scheduled workday during an employee's
vacation or within a period of absence chargeable to sick leave,
the holiday will not be charged to sick leave or vacation time.
A full-time employee who works on the day a holiday is officially
observed shall be compensated at his/her overtime rate on an
hour-for-hour basis for all hours worked on the holiday. Such
compensation shall be in cash or CTO, as determined by the
President. This provision shall apply pro rata to less than
full-time employees. Employees not eligible for overtime receive
time off earned at the straight time rate.
