180 Day or Less Appointment Procedures

CSUEU (Units 2, 5, 7, 9)

(Subject to change in the event of a new contract)

Employees can be appointed to work for up to 180 days in a year in the same position.  The year will be calculated based on the beginning date of the appointment.  The 180 days includes weekends and holidays whether they are worked or not.  Initial appointments shall be for 90 days with the ability to extend for an additional 90 days if necessary.  Appointments of shorter duration may be made.  Employees should not begin work until the position and pay level have been determined in Human Resources.

Complete the Request for Temporary, 90-day Employee form and submit with attachments to Amanda Cruz-Golberg in Human Resources, Staff Employment, campus zip 6032.

Attachments include:

  • An appointing and a separating PTF form must be submitted in order to process the temporary hire.  Departments will be contacted if both forms are not received.  Please note:  Employee must be hired on an hourly intermittent basis.  Time sheets will need to be filled out and turned into Payroll monthly.
  • A Sacramento State Temporary - NonRecruited Application.
  • One copy of the Position Description.  The position description allows Classification and Compensation to determine the proper classification.

If employees are appointed to a salary above the minimum of the salary range, a Request for Staff Appointment/Salary Increase Above Guideline Minimums form must be submitted with signatures from all approval levels before an offer can be made.

Once the classification is determined by Classification and Compensation, and all of the necessary paperwork has been received, the hiring department will be notified that they can make the job offer.

If you have any questions, please contact Amanda Cruz-Golberg, HR/Staff Employment, at 278-6627.
