The California Center for Teaching Careers (CalTeach) was established by Governor Wilson and the California Legislature in 1997 to recruit qualified individuals to the teaching profession in order to alleviate the shortage of credentialed teachers in California. Consider the following facts:

• Each year California's public school population increases by 150,000 students
• As many as 300,000 new teachers will be needed over the next decade in California
• Each year thousands of teachers without adequate qualifications are hired to teach on an emergency basis to fill the critical shortage

CalTeach is a one-stop information and referral recruitment center serving prospective teachers, counselors, and administrators. With centers located at the Institute for Education Reform at CSU, Sacramento and the School of Education at CSU, Long Beach, CalTeach provides:

• Information about teacher recruitment and preparation programs in high schools, schools districts, community colleges, and colleges/universities
• Information about the teacher credentialing process
• Information about financial support and incentives
• Pathways into the teaching profession
• Resume and job application posting, on-line
• Job posting, on-line
• Presentations to schools, colleges, professional organizations, community organizations, and businesses
• Brochures, posters and other materials

All of this information is accessible in multiple languages via the CalTeach website (www.calteach.com) or by calling the toll-free advisor Helpline (1-888-CALTEACH). All of the services and materials are free.
